Speed tests revealed that 3.5-equipped sedans can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 7 seconds, 3.5- and CVT-equipped coupes can do it in 6.7 seconds, and 3.5- and manual-equipped coupes can achieve the 0 to 60 mph sprint in only 6.5 seconds. Brake testing performed by Edmunds shows that an Altima equipped with the 3.5L and 17-inch wheels can come to a complete stop, going from 60 mph to 0, in around 130 feet. Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave both the sedan and coupe a perfect 5 star side crash rating; the sedan got a 5 star frontal crash rating, while the coupe received 4 stars for the same test. Finally, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) bestowed the sedan with its highest rating of "Good" for its performance in their frontal-offset and side crash tests.
