The eighth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class made its debut in time for the 2003 model year, and its W211 chassis represented a significant evolution across the E-Class line for the German automaker. The improved performance, handling and styling of the W211 better positioned MB to compete directly with BMW's 5-Series during its seven years of production, including a 2007 mid-generation refresh, before being supplanted by the W212 for the 2010 model year. | |

The W211 incarnation of the Mercedes-Benz E350 was available in two body types: Sedan and Estate. The 2007 mid-generation refresh saw restyling of both body types. Moving forward from the refresh, both featured a 3.5L V6 engine, with the standard E350 (available in both RWD and 4WD drivetrains) churning out 268hp while the E350 CGI (RWD only) pumped out an extra 20hp. The refresh also saw the previous Sensotronic Brake Control system abandoned, while Mercedes' PRE-SAFE active protection system became standard, along with NECK-PRO head restraints, flashing brake lights and a tire pressure monitor. | |

An optional Intelligent Light System, including bi-xenon headlamps and five different lighting functions, was also introduced with the 2007 refresh. An armored E-Guard version of the E350, reinforced with steel and aramid and featuring Michelin MOExtended run-flat tires with a pressure loss warning system, was made available beginning in 2006.
